Terms and conditions

  1. All materials and resources are copyrighted to and remain the property of Heart of BSL unless otherwise stated.
  2. Course fees and payments
    • 2.1. Payment for your course must be made in full, or at regular intervals during the course if this has been pre-agreed. Please make note of the payment dates given to you upon enrolment
    • 2.2. If you are experiencing difficulties in paying your agreed course fee installments, please contact us immediately as we will not hesitate to take legal action for non-payment of course fees.
    • 2.3. Course fees will be confirmed at the time of booking, and proceeding with the booking constitutes acceptance of the stated fees
    • 2.4. Course fees include teaching materials and resources, as well as ONE attempt at each assessment. Re-sits of assessments will incur additional fees for the assessment as set by Signature, and these can be viewed here: https://www.signature.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Fees-Booklet-24-25.pdf
  3. Cancellation, withdrawal or transfer of course
    • 3.1. Should you withdraw from the course, you will be expected to pay the remainder of the course fees, except at the discretion of Heart of BSL.
    • 3.2 Should Heart of BSL cancel a course, you will receive a full refund of fees paid unless we are able to offer a reasonable alternative due to a cancellation beyond our control.
    • 3.3. Course transfers will only be allowed at the discretion of Heart of BSL
  4. Variation to course dates
    • 4.1. No fees shall be refunded in the event of a successful course completion earlier than anticipated
    • 4.2. No additional fees shall be charged to students in the event of a course completion later than anticipated due to a requirement to extend the planned course dates for any reason. Note: in the event that an individual student requires additional tuition to progress or pass exams outside of that offered to the group, Heart of BSL may charge for this at our discretion. Charges will not exceed £20 an hour for 1:1 tuition.
  5. Issues during the course
    • 5.1. Should a class be cancelled due to tutor illness, weather conditions, venue issues etc, we will endeavour to contact you as soon as possible. It is your responsibility to check for messages in the class WhatsApp group, or via email or SMS if you do not use WhatsApp. Heart of BSL accept no liability for incurred costs for travel etc to a cancelled class where notification was given or where advance notification was not possible.
    • 5.2. If you are unable to attend a class please inform us as soon as possible, via email, SMS or via the class WhatsApp group.
    • 5.3. It is your responsibility to update your contact details should these change during the course. Heart of BSL accept no responsibility for missed emails or messages when we can prove we have attempted to contact you.
  6. Assessments
    • 6.1. Please ensure you make note of your assessment sessions and dates.
      Important: Signature require us to give them a notice period of the date when each student will sit an exam, and charges are incurred for cancellation by the student unless medical evidence can be given proving that you were unwell.
      If Heart of BSL have to cancel or rearrange a booked exam, no additional fees will be incurred by the student as a result of this.
    • 6.2. Should you need to re-sit an assessment, you will receive feedback and a re-sit will be arranged.  You will be responsible for paying the Signature re-sit fee before we book it.
    • 6.3. Should you decide to appeal an assessment result, Heart of BSL will decide if an appeal is valid. Please note students cannot appeal to Signature directly, and all appeals must be made through Heart of BSL. You will be required to pay the fee for the appeal, and should your appeal be rejected by Signature, you will also be required to pay the re-sit fee as per Signature rules.
  7. Policy and procedure
    • 7.1. Heart of BSL has full and valid public liability insurance, employers’ liability and professional indemnity insurance. If you would like a copy of these, please contact the Heart of BSL office.
    • 7.2. Heart of BSL Complaints procedure, GDPR statement and Data Protection Policy, Health and Safety policy, Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policies and procedures can be viewed on the policy page of our website.
    • 7.3. Your contact information and copies of your assessments will be kept on a secure database for the duration of your course for administration purposes. These will be destroyed once you have completed the course.
  8. Student behaviour and conduct
    • 8.1. We expect our students to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner during both classes and scheduled assessments.  We reserve the right to withdraw students from the course or assessment if student behaviour is inappropriate, discriminatory, excludes others or consistently negatively impacts other students learning.
    • 8.2. Any student who attends a class while under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be removed from the course.
    • 8.3. Students are responsible for completing assignments and self-motivating, including seeking contact with the Deaf community. Heart of BSL will signpost and support where possible but students have to take responsibility for this, especially where it is a required part of the course.
  9. Should you have any questions, comments or concerns about your learning please contact us. We want our students to learn, progress and achieve their goals, and we cannot help you if we don’t know that you need additional support or have an issue.
