Level 1 is suitable for complete beginners, and is designed to give a foundation knowledge in British Sign Language. This beginner’s award offers an introduction to how British Sign Language is structured and supports you in learning to communicate with the Deaf community in BSL. We deliver it over 38 weeks, to ensure that learning is not rushed and doesn’t feel pressured, and to allow us to enhance the learning experience by including other information relating to Deaf Awareness and Deaf life. The Signature syllabus includes three assessed modules:
BSL101 – Introduction to BSL
Meeting people, using numbers, weather, transport, and directions.
BSL102 – Conversational BSL
At home – people, animals and objects, using numbers, interests and activities, and weather.
BSL103 -BSL at School, College or Work
Getting around, exchanging information, refreshments, and using numbers
